The Boy Scouts of America relies on dedicated volunteers to promote its
mission of preparing young people to make ethical and moral choices over
their lifetime by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
Through the dedication of these many volunteers, the Boy Scouts of America
remains the foremost youth program of character development and values-based
leadership training in America. Troop 414 has many adult volunteers who work behind the scenes to keep
everything moving smoothly so as to provide the best possible experience
for our scouts.

Outdoor/Activity Coordinator: Paul Taylor

Responsibilities:
- Research site, cost, and facilities options for campouts and outings on troop calendar and provide to PLC for consideration and confirmation.
- Help in securing permission and reservations to use camping sites and outdoor venues.
- Serve as transportation coordinator. Reserve buses and arrange to get keys from church staff.
- Ensure a monthly outdoor program.
- Promote the National Camping Award and National Outdoor Awards.
- Promote, through family meetings, attendance at troop campouts, Camporees, and summer camp to reach the goal of an outing per month.
- Secure tour permits for all troop activities.
- Report to the Troop Committee at each meeting.

Responsibilities:
- Supervise and help the troop procure camping equipment and other equipment or supplies needed for a scheduled troop outing or activity.
- Work with the Troop Quartermaster on inventory and proper storage and maintenance of all troop equipment.
- Make periodic safety and status checks on all troop camping gear, and encourage and oversee training of the troop in the safe use of all outdoor equipment.

Health & Safety Coordinator: Terri Byrne

Responsibilities:
- Obtain and maintain up-to-date BSA Annual Health and Medical Records for each Scout and adult that attends troop events and outings. Verify that Parts A, B, and C are current as prescribed by the BSA and as needed for the activities in which each individual participates.
- Verify that the troop’s travel notebook has one copy of the following for each Scout and active troop adult: Medical form (Parts A, B, & C as needed), copy of insurance card, personal medication form, personal photo (face picture and full body picture).
- Insure that each adult leader be trained in 'Scouting Safety ... Begins with Leadership'.
- Verify that each adult leader has the proper health and safety trainings required for each activity being conducted.
- Schedule First Aid and CPR training for adult leaders without current certification.
- Arrange for qualified supervision at every unit activity.
- Develop and exercise unit discipline based on respect, understanding and leadership.
- Maintain a troop first aid kit; one kit for the troop trailer and one for backpacking/canoeing treks.
- Ensure compliance with city or county health codes/ordinances/restrictions/requirements at troop fundraiser activities involving food.

- Make a prompt report on the correct form to the council service center when a troop board of review is held. Secure badges and certificates.

- Develop a plan for year-round membership flow into the troop.

- Work closely with the Cubmaster and Webelos Den Leader of neighboring Cub Scout packs to provide a smooth transition from pack to troop.
- Assist in recruiting and developing Den Chiefs.
- Assist in preparation for and participation in the crossover ceremony from Webelos Scouts to Boy Scouts.
- Plan and coordinate a troop open house to invite non-Scouts into the troop.
- Plan and coordinate the troop information booth at semi-annual Scout Sunday events.
- Promote and encourage Scouts to actively recruit new members and invite their friends to visit and join the troop.
- Keep track of Scouts who drop out of the troop, and develop a plan to encourage them to rejoin.
- Assist in the orientation of new Scout parents to Boy Scouting and the troop through one-on-one and new parent orientation sessions.

- Provide guidance, advice, and direction to Life rank Scouts regarding the planning and preparations for Eagle projects.
- Understands the business and paperwork side of becoming an Eagle.
- Works with the Advancement Chair to insure completion and accurate, timely recording of necessary requirements to earn Eagle rank.
- Maintains a list of possible Eagle projects and a list of organizations and people who have projects that might become Eagle projects.
- Maintains Troop 414's archives of the Eagle process.
- Maintains copies of past Eagle Project Books.
- Helps the Life Scout complete the six requirements of Eagle Scout.
- Helps prepare the scout for his Eagle Scoutmaster Conference.
- Evaluates and provides troop approval of the Scout's Eagle project plan and project preparation write up.
- Counsels and assists Scout with preparation for successful District review/approval of his Eagle project.
- Works with the Life Scouts to avoid the common mistakes associated with the effort to become an Eagle.
- Works directly with the Life Scout on all phases of his Eagle project.
- Serve as a resource for ideas and references for a successful Eagle Court of Honor.
- Oversee and verify accuracy and up-to-date nature of content on Life-To-Eagle web page of troop web site.
